Some Thoughts on the Death of Bin Laden

This article was linked through the STR post about how Christians should view the death of Osama bin Laden. I think the riotous celebrations were overkill and many Christians have the wrong state of mind for what has happened.Ezekiel 33 shows that God takes “no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but rather that the wicked turn from his wickedness” but there are many verses (e.g., Psalm 1:5-6; 5:4-6; 68:2; Isaiah 13:1-22; Jeremiah 18:11) that show that God delights in His justice on the wicked. I am grieved that bin Laden chose his rebellion against God, but am grateful that God is Just and will punish him accordingly for his sin. I am also grateful to remember that if it weren’t for His pardon of grace through the death of Jesus on the cross, I would be just as deserving of God’s justice as bin Laden was.
